In August, Ohio’s 11 casinos and racinos collectively generated just under $195 million in gambling revenue, nearly unchanged from the same month last year. The state’s gambling establishments brought in $194.8 million, slightly lower than the record $196 million in August 2022. These figures represent the money retained by the gambling houses after paying out winnings but before state taxes and fees.
For the year 2023 so far, the total gambling revenue for casinos and racinos stands at $1.6 billion, a slight increase from $1.58 billion over the first eight months of the previous year. It’s important to note that these figures exclude horse-race betting and newly legalized sports betting.
Breaking down the performance of different types of gambling establishments:
- The four casinos, offering both slot machines and table games, recorded $82.4 million in gambling revenue in July, a slight decrease from $84.3 million in the same period last year.
- The seven racinos, which can only offer slot machines and are located at horse racetracks, reported $112.5 million in revenue, a modest increase from $111.7 million.
In the Greater Cleveland market, the performance in August was as follows:
- MGM Northfield Park generated $26 million, up from $24.2 million in August 2022.
- JACK Thistledown Racino reported $15.3 million, down from $15.7 million.
- JACK Casino Cleveland saw $22.3 million, up from $21.8 million.
